Making a Come Back 29 August 2010
M
alware and viruses that have been around for years are now
trying to make a comeback and doing a wonderful job at it.
Rouge Anti-Viruses and Rouge Anti-Malware are making the rounds
once again. Beware when a window pops up stataing that you are
infected, and it promotes protection software that you don't have.
Tricking the consumer into clicking anywhere on the window allows
the malware and fake program to enter the computer. By then,
it is too late. Use your alt + ctrl + del to close the window
using task manager. Or, select the window from your task bar
and use the alt + F4 to close the window. If you find that you
have done so, but the window continues to pop open on restart or
start up, it may be time to panic. Some of these programs make
it very difficult to go to a site such as
MalwareBytes
and
SuperAntiSpyware along with any other anti-virus sites. If
you feel like you can't get to these sites it may be to late.
It won't let you download updates anymore. Avoid this by
keepint your anti-virus up to date before it happens, and also make
sure you have active protection. A plrogram that I have
downloaded that I really like is
Prevex.
Get the free or paid version (paid is better in my opinion), and
install it. The free version will catch rootkits and viruses
quickly.
Protection from Hackers 21 July 2010
Everybody knows that hackers are bad, and we all want
protection from hackers. A great way to keep malware, viruses,
spyware and people out of your computer is to install and run a
firewall. Software firewalls are not as productive as a hardware
firewall such as
FORTINET. Software firewalls (firewall programs) require a
little bit of knowledge so do some research, but it better than nothing.
You can always call a local computer expert for help to configure one,
or what the options are and what is a better option. I have found
ONLINE
ARMOR a descent program to use that is free. However; I
don't always say free is the best because most free versions have an
option to upgrade or buy. Of course it is better protection.
Right now, I am running
ZONE
ALARM FREE to see how it acts. Keep your options open and
do your homework, but it is a great place to look for more protection.
Slow Computer? 19 July 2010
Every time I say that I have seen it all I am only proven wrong. I
have some tips here to keep your computer running. First off, I will
tell you Virus and Malware will slow your computer down.
Don't think that you are always protected. Some things you can try on
your own is download SUPER
ANTISPYWARE or MALWARE BYTES
and you can run them both at the same time. These are free
anti-spyware and anti-malware programs that do a really good job are
removing malware and spyware.
First: Download
either one/both of these programs and save them to the desktop on your
computer or another location you can remember.
Second: Restart
Your computer and boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key and you can
then choose SAFE MODE.
Third: Run the
program(s).
After the programs are finished scanning, re-boot your computer and you should see a difference. Remember, if you can't get to these programs on the computer that is in trouble, download the files to a CD or thumb drive. Straight Forward Computing will help with your problems by Remote or by appointment.
